Their intention is to captivate and enslave the minds of millions of regular Americans so they will believe everything they are fed from some right-wing media entities. These include certain programming on Fox News, people like Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh, as well as organizations like The John Birch Society, Americans for Prosperity, the Tea Party, and others.
When American parents force feed, indoctrinate, and brainwash their children into their culture of right-wing extremism and American fanaticism, the effect on them can be overwhelming. Childhood and puberty are tough enough as it is. It is a horrible and despicable act to instill fear, hate, despair, isolationism, paranoia, entitlement, and a romantic obsession for domestic terrorism in a young mind. My father brought me into this world to help save the country from communist enslavement. His intended purpose for my life was to educate others with the truth about the communist conspiracy and to help set America free.
This book is about my personal journey and the way these attitudes directly caused so much suffering in my own life, as well as how it is still having an effect on the choices and decisions being made by a large percentage of people in this country today.

"HATE OR BE HATED" has very powerfully, and effectively educated me about what a John Birch mindset and lifestyle is, but more importantly how a parent's involvement in it can painfully, and so negatively, effect an innocent young child ~ and continue effecting him on into adulthood. It is child abuse in the form of hateful mind-control, and just as serious as sexual, and physical abuse but rarely discussed as such.I appreciated Mr. Daniel's informative and reliable lessons on this hateful right-wing political movement (and lifestyle) and the psychology behind it, as well as the well-researched history and his unique take on all of it, as someone raised in the bowels of it. His story has given me a better understanding of the phenomenon and the evil behind the John Birch Society.
What Mr. Daniel has succeeded in writing so well about is critical information to have available for all people, but especially those who are questioning ideologies, and seeking truth and justice, etc. And in saying, "writing so well," I mean he has made it understandable for even the least politically minded amongst us. His expressive, no holds barred, passionate writing style has the potential to excite and encourage the reader to go further into learning more about this side of American politics, as well as politics in general.
Mr. Daniel's sincerity shines throughout the book, allowing my attention to be captured and held all the way through till the end; this is definitely a hard to put down book, but it is also a quick read.
"HATE OR BE HATED" is very much written like a memoir of a man and his father and the right-wing extremism that kept/tore them apart. However, the parts in the book that are not autobiographical make it a source of factual information about this politically dangerous form of human mind control.
I highly recommend Mr. Daniel's book.

I am very glad that I found this book. I have recommended it several times since reading it.
The mindset of Mr. Daniel's father and his cronies gives some insight into the current reactionary political climate in the United States.
Education is the best tool available for preventing the sort of misguided attitudes common to members of organizations such as the KKK and the John Birch Society.
I commend Mr. Daniel on having the presence of mind and personal forthrightness to break free from his father's ignorant teachings.
The young man who wrote this book is a brave soul, and a very interesting person whom I would love to meet. In this book, he tells his fascinating story of how he managed, thanks to a few good teachers, a sharp and open mind, and a gift for rock'n'roll, to escape from a cultish world of trailer-dwelling rural John Bircher true-believers into a thoughtful, compassionate member of civil society.
I am particularly impressed with the way he unflinchingly describes his father's cruelty, paranoia and misery without losing sight of, or compassion for, the terrible trauma that shaped his father survivor's guilt. To explain it, he recounts the story of how every member of his father's platoon in Vietnam was killed during a mission that the father was not present for (he had been permitted leave to go stateside to attend his own father's funeral).
The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars is that it is often repetitious and poorly edited. I sense that this writer is tremendously gifted, and I would love to read more of his work in the future, but I must admit that I miss professional editors! Every writer needs one, and nobody is willing to pay for them any more, so unfortunately, a great many fine writers with important things to say, such as this writer, don't really have a full opportunity to put their best foot forward.
This book was very personal to me, because with the 2016 election, my already rural ultra-conservative family began talking about increasingly crazy conspiracy theories, hoarding guns, gold and silver bars/coins, and food similar to the doomsday preppers, and living in an apparent alternative reality. The year culminated in my family admitting to being members of the John Birch Society for my entire life without previously disclosing this to me because I had apparently rejected early "teachings" with facts. Although it doesn't fix my broken extended family, this book did provide insight into the sad, fearful world of conspiracy theories and darkness that I was lucky enough to somehow escape with only minor scars. I can not thank JG Daniel for taking the time to write this book to provide insight into a world that I lived among for 17 years prior to going to college but was never really "in". That is not to say that my family was not an angry and authoritarian environment, just that I didn't get the full experience of brainwashing because the John Birch Society was a secretive group by the time I was born. Since I loved books and history and challenged my family members when I believed they were wrong, they didn't chance me "outing" their secret. Mr. Daniel's story helped me to begin to understand the rage with which they engaged me this year regarding a number of seeming innocuous political disagreements that led to threats and outbursts I could not rationalize or understand. This book is a bold statement on education and outreach, which helped save Mr. Daniel (and I believe myself) as well as providing a roadmap for how to reach kids in situations similar to how Mr. Daniel and I were raised. This book (and my unwritten story) are a testament to the power of education to save people from some terrible realities. Although we grew up 1,500 miles apart, Mr. Daniel's story helped fill in the blanks on mine and help me to better understand the brainwashing my brothers have endured that has sucked them into this horrible cult which they continue disseminating to their children. Although my review sounds very dark, I am very grateful for the time Mr. Daniel put into telling his story because it is important on my path to understanding and healing.
